How to Improve Your English Vocabulary

Did you know that English has 47,000 words? How are we going to learn them all? Vocabulary is important in our daily lives.  No matter how proficient you are in a language, if you don't know vocabularies it can likely cause communication problems.  Now, how can we improve our vocabularies?

1. Use Dictionaries and Thesaurus

As old as it sounds, we are all listing new ideas and things we need to remember. Surprisingly, it also works in learning vocabularies. You can jot down the origin, category and usability in the sentence. Dictionaries and Thesaurus are helpful resources for providing complete information of each word.  It also includes the synonym and antonym and other words related to it. It is also another way of learning vocabulary. 

2. Word games

Vocabularies can't be learned for just one day. You can improve your knowledge about it through applying it in a daily conversation. Learning isn't just memorization alone.  We all love playing different games and classic games like crossword puzzles, boggle, taboo and scrabble can help you improve your vocabulary. 

3. Use of Flashcards

One of the best way to create vocabulary is through the use of flashcards. In a digital careers, there's a wide a array of application you can readily download for vocabulary. You can learn many words at your own availability.

4. Use Mnemonics

Mnemonics device is a form of word association that helps you remember word's definition and purposes. For example, the word "contentment" we have content means to be "ment" refers to a result of an action. 

5. Practice new words in the conversation

   You can know a lot of vocabulary, but without using them it will be forgotten. Vocabularies make our lives easier. With the use of the new words, you can connect with your family and peers.  Don't be afraid to commit mistakes because it is an important part of learning. There should be trial and error within the social context.
